Post-Impressionism: A New Art of Expression.

Following on from our course on Impressionism, this second course dedicated to Post-Impressionism shows how modern art moves off in different directions largely due to the very personal visions of four singular artists Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Georges Seurat and Paul Gauguin. Originally engaged with the values and goals of Impressionism, these artists developed a very expressive and subjective way of describing experience and the world they perceived around them. Looking to the past as much to the future, they would lead modern art into the 20th Century. Art made outside Europe by other cultures and ancient art also offered inspiration, allowing these significant artists to synthesise a wide range of ideas and techniques. The course provides four talks and two films lasting over two hours offering a detailed history and explanation about the body of art we now describe as 'Post-Impressionism'.
